Special Presentation - Douwe Dijkstra "Monochrome Visions" 5th September
At our last meeting we had a guest presenter, Douwe (Dex) Dijkstra, who entertained and informed us with his ‘Monochrome Visions’. Dex, who is a graphic designer by profession and a photographer by choice, showed a range of his work which was a comprehensive portfolio of photographs taken in and around Sydney. The photographs were largely street photography, but not to the usual formula that typically shows people as the dominant theme. Dex includes people in many of his shots but they are generally not dominant in the frame and are mostly silhouetted. As such their inclusion provides a touch of human interest to contrast the more rigid forms of the surrounding architecture.
A feature of Dex’s photography is that is exclusively achieved by the use of a mobile ‘phone, with virtually no post processing. His satisfaction comes from the capture of moments.
From the number of questions and the general discussion during tea break it seems that the presentation was well received and was seen as quite inspirational.
More of Dex’s work can be seen on his web site - http://www.douwedijkstra.net/.
Our next meeting is a night outing to the Circular Quay area. Jim Crew President
